Description of mareline 776 from Heiner Kanowski out of the book "Holsteiner Stutenstämme" of Claus Schridde:
Asmussen Verlag
The familiy of the dam Aktie is very popular of riders and breeders. The outstanding successes of these horses are based on the breeding concept of the family and are arousing interest all over the world. It is possible to backtrack the origin of the line 776 until 1868. Since this time the mareline of Actie is connected with the family Bahlmann, Moorhufen / Schleswig Holstein. Foundation dam is the dark brown Aktie by Attorney General xx, at that time Nicolaus Magens was the owner. He is the great-grandfather of the present day owner of the farm, Uwe Bahlmann. Aktie was several bred to the important foundation stallion Achill. A combination of blood, which is repeated in the following generations of line 776.
Great hardiness and an outstanding jumping potential are consolidated through several in-breedings of Burlington Turk, one of the foundation stallions of the breeding of Holstein. Additional a type with an intensive inheritance. The pedigrees of the foundation-dams are characterised by the imported Burlington Turk, born 1825, by Harpham Turk xx and a Yorkshire-Coach-dam. The light-bay stallion without markings has had fantastic basic gaits. Small but powerful, that characterised the offspring of Eclipse. The mareline 776 is current in-breeded to this blood.
The capital of the history of this mareline started with the dam Olga, born 1915, by Wahnfried and Kleopatra by Radjah. In 1924 Paul Bahlmann was coming to Moorhufen, the farm of the grandfather, with the 4 years old dam Olga. This dam was very fertile, she has had 9 daughters with an excellent quality. The sisters Wiebke by Elegant, Energie by Mackensen, Ilona by Favorit and Aktie by Elegant left the important inheritage information to the next generations. Power, endurance, hardiness and go are the main characters since generationen. The dams characterised by Ethelbert there were a new consolidation to Achill and Ethelbert, the formative influence of this mareline. Wiebke, Energie and Ilona were remaining at Bahlmann's farm, Aktie was sold for 1600 Reichsmark to Martin Thormählen, Moorhusen. The great-grandson of the buyer and present breeder of the line 776, Dr. Cord Thormählen, still believes that this buy was a good speculation with a good dividend. It was the beginning of a power part of this line in the stable of Thormählen. In 1927 Aktie got a premium of the DLG show and she is the first ancestor of a lot of excellent sport-horses.
The daughter of Olga, Carla by Tobias couldn't build up a present part of this line, but she is dam of the stallion Heinzelmann, sire of the famous dam Rappel (line 173 - Capitol I) and of the fantastic dam Organisation. Organisation is dam of the high-class jumping-horses Baden and Original Holsatia, both by Fanal. Heinzelmann established the legendary reputation of line 776 regarding a correct conformation.
Bahlmann's farm is the origin of a lot of generations of successful sport-horses. Arabian ancestors put their stamp on the line of Bahlmann. These include especially Ramzes x by Rittersporn xx and Jordi ox, a small Shagya-Arabian dam with a lot of blood of Amurath ox. Ramzes x is very important, charac- terised by nobleness and power, none other stallion with an oriental pedigree was similar important (note of C.H.: with Roman is Ramzes x the great-grandpa of La Gomera). The result of this part of oriental blood is the nobleness. One of the high-decorated beauty-queens of the line 776 is Verina, born 1983, by Caletto II and Gera by Marlon xx. This granddaughter of Cor de la Bryére with outstanding basic gaits was vice-champion of the elite broodmare show in Elmshorn and awarded a prize to the national broodmare show in Verden 1990. There was also Wiebke, born 1984, by Lord and Galina by Ramiro. Bred of Bahlmann the mare has won the class of the 3 years old horses of the elite broodmare show in Elmshorn in 1987. Cottage Son xx, the sire of the dam of Lord and Ramiro, and also the in-breeding to the blood of line 776 are dominating the pedigree of this champion.
Like the breeding between both seas, the line 776 is the origin of a lot of successful international jumping-horses. Successful sport-horses are most effective advertising medium of a mareline. Here there are the advertising mediums Ramiro, Lord Incipit (born 1980 by Lord and Orama by Ronald), Leandra (born 1976 by Landgraf I and Aktie by Fax I) and the spectacular Cortino I (born 1976 by Cor de la Bryère and Aktie by Fax I). After his successfull stallion performance test this chesnut was ridden of Herbert Blöcker. In 1980 and 1981 Cortino was several winner in eventing and jumping competitions for young horses. At the age of 6 years he was vice-champion of the Bundeschampionat of jumping horses with Franke Sloothaak. One year later he was successful in the highest level with Dr. Michael Rüping. After that he was sold to Brazil in the stable of Johannpeter. With Andre Johannpeter he has won the league of South-America of the World-Cup in 1984 and was qualified for the final. His full-sister Cortina I was vice-champion of the elite broodmare show in Elmshorn and very successful until the highest level (1,60m). Cortina II was successful until 1,40m and Cortina III also until 1,55m. The breeding name of Cortina III was Wendy and she was the dam of Der Lenz by Lenz. Der Lenz was participant at the European championship of young riders in 1995.
Tatjana, born 1981 by Lorenz and Ira by Moltke I was coming from the high-powered part of this mareline. This big-framed brown mare was very successful in international jumping competitions with Jörg Münzner and Luciana Diniz. Her younger brother Lauritz J, a licensed stallion, was successful with Jürgen Süßmann. Ira is also granddam of Lord Incipit, winner until 1,60m competitions with Thies Luther. Additional she is dam of Loriander by Contender, licensed in NL.
In 1995 Leandra, born 1980 by Landgraf I and Gloria by Ramiro was winning the Grand Prix of Stockholm with Otto Becker. This noble mare is one of the successful sport-horses of the breeding of Bahlmann. Gloria is dam of Doreen by Corrado I, who is dam of Acorado I and II.
There is also a lot of rideability in line 776. Good examples are the successful dressage-horses Mahdi, born 1966 by Marlon xx and Irmtrud by Faber - Christine Stückelberger/CH, Ladamo, born 1984 by Ladalco and Karla by Cor de la Bryére, in USA successful in dressage until the highest level. Before he was qualified to the Bundeschampionat of dressage-horses. Marius, born 1970 by Marlon xx and Irmtrud by Faber, was licensed but infertile - Dr. Josef Neckermann, My Lord, born 1980 by Masetto and Karla by Cor de la Bryére - Nadine Capellmann. My Lord has had outstanding basic gaits.
Breeding and sport - hand in glove: The stallion Ramiro represented this in Zangersheide. Also an other member of this family was there in breeding: High Valley by Ahorn and Urika by Conte - Colt, successful until 1,60m with Jos Lansink.
Three great Holsteiner stallion-lines are the basic of the mareline 776: The lines of Achill, of Cicero and of Ethelbert. Until the sixties the influence of the lines of Achill (take also a look to Amrum I) and Ethelbert is obvious. Achill, in his pedigree you can find Burlington Turk five times, characterizes the mareline especially with his son Tobias was very important. In his days Tobias was modern, good typed, with an excellent top-line and hard constitution. By the way Tobias is on his dam's side a grandson of Cicero. In the part of Tobias-Favorit of this line of Achill there were fantastic dams with excellent features.
The male line of Ethelbert is extinguished but contributed in a significant way of Holsteiner marelines. This line was complementary to the popular line of Achill signalising the optimal connection of nobleness and weight. In two respects an argument for the successfull combination of line with Achill and Ethelbert. Both were heroes of the former history of sport-horses like Original Holsatia and Baden. Baden was participant of the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 and Original Holsatia was successful in international competitions with Fritz Thiedemann.
With the blood of Ethelbert there was a great influence of the mareline of Cicero, who was a good stallion to pass down an outstanding jumping potential to his offspring. On his sire's side Cicero is founded to the Hanoverian line of Schlütter. Imported stallions have played a decisive role during this early time of breeding history. In the line 776 with Landgraf the blood of Adjutant took effect, which is originated in the East Prussian Midas resp. in the thoroughbred Louis Philippe xx. There is an Arabian influence on Wahnfried, the sire of Olga and a grandson of Amurath. Amurath, a son of Amurath ox, took a great influence on the successful stallion Gotthard in the Hanoverian breeding. And there is an additional Arabian influence on Mackensen by Elegant and Pracht by Zauberer. The dam's sire Zauberer included the blood of Kuheilan el Ajuz ox.
In the breeding phase to a modern sport-horse Cottage Son xx was playing an important part for line 776. His direct sons Colonel by Cottage Son xx and Piave by Heidelberg and Colt by Cromwell and Ulana by Anblick xx were important in the sixties. Ulana is also dam of Joost by Consul - NL. Both have had a great influence on the dams in the whole breeding. E.g. Colt is dam's sire of Constant and Costa, both were winner until 1,60m competitions with Dr. Michael Rüping. The influence of Cottage Son xx takes also part in the pedigree of younger dams, especially regarding the dams of Ramiro, Lord and Calando I. And "The Three Kings" of Holstein Landgraf I, Lord and Cor de la Bryère have also a great influence on the younger generations.
